Middle School serves others at SERRV PDF Print

2011_SERRV_field_tripOn Wednesday, November 2, 2011, middle school students joined the staff at the Brethren Service Center in New Windsor, Maryland for a day of work.  They earned service learning hours while learning about the concepts of fair trade. SERRV’s mission is to limit poverty by providing opportunities and support to artisans and farmers from around the world.

The students helped to inspect merchandise and package the items for shipment.  The baskets, scarves, wooden boxes, jewelry and home decorations represent art work and food products come from around the world.  This was a hands-on experience allowing the students to help people from Africa, South America, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe and the Mideast.  Students learned how the U.S. can support underdeveloped countries to raise their social and environmental standards by exporting goods.
